Very interested to see how this one turns out. Found some preview footage that seemed to be captured on PS5, clearly 30fps but very graphically impressive. I was leaning toward the PC version, but the requirements are unusually demanding, so I might go with PS5. Looking forward to reviews and technical analysis!

With a zero refund policy, I am not willing to spend more than £15 on a digital game.

I have several digital games I would of refunded if I could and now I'm stuck with them, money down the drain.

I have high hopes, despite trying to keep expectations low for all things. But isn't the problem usually PC performance? Like who actually thinks this game would have problems running on a PS5 at 30fps. I need to understand your addled mind

Where the heck have I been.. I’ve been looking forward to this game and I’m just finding out it’s digital only.. wtf.. I’m not buying a new game again that I can’t resell afterwards.. I broke down and bought MK:1 digital and I reeeeally regret it.. that game ended up being a major disappointment and reiterated why I don’t do digital anymore.. this is sad news for me 😔

@WolfyTn Same here, I always buy physical, but for some reason unknown I decided to buy FF16 for 70 pounds...just to realize the game is just not for me. I can't sell it obviously so it just sits on my account for eternity. Never again.

I do still remember how rough Control was even on PS4 Pro, but admittedly they were dealing with six years old base hardware (which wasn’t that amazing to begin with) at that point, so I’m hoping this time will be different. As long the performance mode is at least 1440p with a steady 60FPS, I’m happy, though I’m def also going to try Fidelity, since the game seems like a looker.

Shame about no 40FPS choice, for now at least. Spider-Man 2 has really spoiled me on it.

All the disc holdouts crying and foot stamping because they choose to miss out on the game. Along with the usual reasons why they hate digital.

This is the most anticipated game this year for me, I normally buy physical copies but in this case I will make an exception!

To play Remedy games day one is rarely a good idea. Didn’t play Control on day one but bought it a few months later, and it was still hampered by technical issues despite how great it was. After spending 60 bucks on Spider-Man 2, there is no way I’m paying full price for a digital only release anyway. They’ll probably come to their senses and produce a physical version early 2024.

This is a unique situation for me.I love alan wake and i hate when i dont have the choice between retail and digital.Also i would love to get the super duper special edtion with the stickers etc for this game,but remedy has left me stranted in the digital realm. Also i would usually wait for a proper review(df) to see how the game performs,but in this case i love the story so much that i dont care if its 30 fps with tearing.So yeah i bought it and i cant wait for friday to come...

Although I do not disagree with owning physical media, I am skipping Alan Wake and I skipped BG3 because of it. I was going to skip The Man Who Erased His Name until I got a physical pre-order from Japan. However, where I am from if you buy a piece of physical media most places require the item to be sealed and unopened for a return. So it is to say if you get a game and don't like it you are still stuck with it. Sure you can still sell it privately but you cannot return it to the retailer who sold it to you.

This makes it the same as digital purchases where you are unable to return a game after you have played it and found out it is just not for you.

Digital-only apologists making it easier for media companies to gouge our wallets. If these billionaires want my money they can sell me a tangible item I can hold in my hand.

I jest, obviously, as I do understand that it is the way things are going. Music, TV, and Movies are all digital now and I don't have a problem with not owning a physical copy of season 3 of Rick and Morty. However, until the game industry can offer a TRUE Netflix-style experience for a reasonable price per month and I can play all the games I want DAY and DATE, or make digital purchases priced for SIGNIFICANTLY less than what the physical price would be ($80 physical $40 digital), then I am not willing to cave to a digital game world.

You are right though, it will be a dull future without all the gorgeous game cases to line my shelves.

@MikeOrator You can sell/trade it in at somewhere like CEX who buy used games off people.

If you don't have stores that buy used games where you live then that sucks, but it's not a problem here in the UK.

I'm going to try and get through either Mario Wonder or Spiderman 2 before I dive into Alan Wake 2. I can easily juggle 2 games at the same time but when it gets to 3 or more things start to become a little hectic

Trade in on used games yes. Refund on open games No. Although I have not traded or sold off games in a few years.

Super bizarre how little this game is being talked about considering it releases in 48 hrs. Definitely some red flag bells going off on this one....

@MikeOrator I bought RDR2 day one for £55 and played it for about a week, found it really boring, sold it for £40 to a store.

That would of been £55 down the drain if bought digital.

Sony needs to get their ***** together, and offer refunds on digital games, just like on Steam, Xbox, etc.
Nintendo is also terrible at this.

Considering the VERY demanding specs on PC, I fear for the console versions, especially in 60fps mode. So expect low native res, and hope that FSR, don't break down in a storm of artifacts.

My PC got a RTX 2080 card, and it will not have a good time with this game...

But maybe (hopefully) they'll surprise me.

Yup. I guess I just know I'm a holdout for physical games media.

The truth of the matter is that the generations of gamers coming up don't have the same attachments to this part of the hobby. For better and for worse game cases will disappear and places like Limited Run with step up for hardcore collectors.

By then hopefully, Sony will allow a 60-minute grace period on digital games and start to allow for hassle-free refunds.
